- Please verify that the job site address you would like a permit for is within the Town of Danville’s town boundary. You can verify your address by visiting http://www.danvillepioneer.org/ or by calling the permit desk at (925)314-3330. If you are not within the Town’s boundaries your address is under the County of Contra Costa jurisdiction. Please verify by visiting the County’s website, https://gis.cccounty.us/Html5//index.html?viewer=CCMAP.

Depending on the permit category you applied for, your project may require a plan review.PERMIT STATUS WHO NEEDS TO ADDRESS PERMIT WHAT IT MEANS RECEIVED IN CAP PERMIT TECHNICIANS Permit has been applied for and is awaiting review by the Permit Technicians. Permit Conditions are made available in portal if required. Status is updated to INVOICED or APPROVED when the review has completed. (Ideally, this status should never be longer than 3 business days.) INCOMPLETE SUBMITTAL APPLICANT, CONTRACTOR OR OWNER
Contact via email and/or phone has been sent to the Applicant, Contractor and Owner notifying them of what is required.INVOICED APPLICANT, CONTRACTOR OR OWNER Fees have been accessed and need to be paid before any further action is taken. Staff would also notify you if something is missing or needs to be clarified prior to review by our Review Teams. Receipts are processed the next business day after payment. The permit is sent for review and status would be changed to APPLIED. (If permit is in INVOICE Status, and no fees are showing due and you know you have not paid any fees yet, please email us to invoice the fees.)
APPLIED PLAN REVIEWERS Permit is currently in Review by the Plans Examiners. Reviews can last up to 5 or 10 working days depending on the scope of work. When the plan reviews have been completed by all Divisions (Planning, Engineering or Building), the status will change to REQUIRES RESUBMIT or APPROVED.
REQUIRES RESUBMIT APPLICANT, CONTRACTOR OR OWNER New set of plans and all plan check comments need to be addressed. Must include a Resubmittal Letter with a complete set of plans. Refer to the attachments in the Permit Portal for the Plan Check Cover Letter and any Plan Check Comments. Status will change back to APPLIED when new plans and plan check response letters have been received/processed.
APPROVED APPLICANT, CONTRACTOR OR OWNER Building Permit is made available for your signatures, any remaining fees will need to be paid. All pre-issuance conditions will need to be met. When all items have been reviewed and approved, status is updated to ISSUED.
Hold ups - No Contractor has been selected, Building Permit is not signed in all 4 spots or is not available for download.
ISSUED APPLICANT, CONTRACTOR OR OWNER Permit Inspection Card is available on Attachments Tab as well as any Approved Plans (online permits only) in the permit portal.
Inspections can be scheduled as long as all fees are paid.
You have 365 days from the date of issuance to complete the work permit.FINALIZED NO ONE Permit is complete. No further inspections or work can be performed on this permit. CANCELLED NO ONE Permit is permanently cancelled. No work can be performed. WITHDRAWN NO ONE Permit has been withdrawn. No work can be done on this permit. EXPIRED APPLICANT, CONTRACTOR OR OWNER No inspections can be ordered. There is still a chance that the permit can be reinstated before being permanently cancelled. Please email the building department with a justifiable cause of the delay in completing the permit at building@danville.ca.gov if you wish to complete the permit. If your request is approved, there will be a $115.00 reinstatement fee invoiced. APPLICATION EXPIRED NO ONE Permit has been deemed abandoned. No work on the permit or application has been completed within 180 days. Fees have been forfiet. APPROVAL EXPIRED NO ONE Permit has been deemed abandoned and was never issued. No contact within 180 days since the approval of the permit. Permit fees have been forfeit. -

A Permit is required for most construction and/or repair projects. Permits are required for, but not limited to:
- Projects that involve plumbing, electrical, or mechanical work
- Project that involve structural changes (e.g. beams/columns/shearwalls/load bearing walls)
- Residential Additions (increasing square footage of the home)
- Alterations/remodels/repairs (e.g. Bathroom and Kitchen Remodels)
- Accessory Structures (e.g. patios, decks)
- Accessory Dwelling units
- Adding/replacing HVAC, Water heaters or air conditioners
- Retaining walls (with surcharge or is taller than 4ft measure from bottom of footing to top of wall)
- Swimming pools, spas, hot tubs

How to Schedule an Inspection:

- Or please visit our Online Permit Center (or Citizen Access Portal) to schedule an Inspection. Please note you will need to create an account if you choose to schedule an inspection using our online system. Step by step instructions on how to schedule inspections online.
After you scheduled an inspection:
- The estimated window time frame for your requested inspection is posted on our online portal the morning of your inspection date.
