Karen Stepper was first elected to the Town Council in 2002. During her 19-year tenure, she has served as Mayor in 2006, 2011, 2016, and 2020.
In her role as a council member, Karen has served on numerous local and regional committees to preserve Danville decisions and standards that make our historic town unique, including Current Chair CCC Mayors Conference, Director/Campaign Chair 2012 Veterans Building, Director/board member for "Emergency Preparedness" Citizen's Corp Council, RecycleSmart Solid Waste Authority, CC Transportation Authority, Tri-Valley Transportation Council, Traffix (Congestion Relief Agency), East Bay Economic Development Alliance (Co-Chair Membership), San Joaquin Tri-Valley Rail Authority, I-Gate Innovation Hub, East Bay Regional Communications Systems Authority, League of California Cities Revenue & Tax Policy Committee.
Additionally, Karen serves in many volunteer roles in Danville: Past president of Mustang Soccer League, SRV Exchange Club, and SRV Historical Society, Board Member of Museum of SRV, and providing monthly Danville Docent Walks, Danville Car Show Team, and Honorary Member of Pearl Harbor Survivors. Karen's avocation continues to be coaching youth soccer for over 35 years.
Karen received her BS degree in Mathematics Teaching from the University of Illinois in Urbana and her Masters in Accounting from California State Hayward. Now retired, Karen worked as a CPA for over 30 years, first for Deloitte and then with her own CPA firm in
a neighboring city. Prior to her election to the Town Council, Karen served 9
years in elected office as a Board Member for the San Ramon Valley Unified
School District after teaching in San Jose for 4 years. Karen and her husband Tony have
lived in Danville since 1974, raising their son and daughter, both graduates of
Monte Vista High School and UCSD, who are working on the peninsula and raising
their families in San Ramon and Walnut Creek.
