[ARCHIVED] New Danville Art Exhibit Features Encaustic Art

DANVILLE, Calif. (March 3, 2023: The Town of Danville Village Theatre Art Gallery is pleased to present a new art exhibit featuring a collection of encaustic paintings by established Bay Area artists. CONVERGENCE: The Intersection of Wax, Color & Design, An Exploration of Encaustic Art is curated by Rinat Goren. The exhibit opens March 25.

Coming from the Latin word encastiko, meaning “to burn in” or “to fuse together,” encaustic painting is a special form of art, different from traditional painting methods which employ paintbrush and oil or acrylic paint.  Instead, the artist who creates encaustic artwork is employing heat as a method to fuse together pure color pigment with beeswax to produce a unique work of art that presents as sometimes smooth and sometimes ridged, and always inviting as the multiple layers draw the viewer in.

Exhibit dates are March 25 through May 26, with an opening reception on Saturday, March 25 from 4 to 6 p.m. The artists featured in the exhibit will be present to discuss their artwork, and all artwork in this exhibit will be available for purchase.

The reception and exhibit are open to the public and free to attend. For information on the exhibit or the Art Gallery, please visit www.danville.ca.gov/vtart or contact Visual Arts Coordinator Marija Nelson Bleier at (925) 314-3460 or mnelsonbleier@danville.ca.gov
