[ARCHIVED] Contemporary Fado Artist Ramana Vieira Returns to the Village Theatre

Contemporary Fado Artist Ramana Vieira Returns to the Village Theatre

On September 24th at 7:00 p.m., Ramana Vieira will bring contemporary Fado music to the Village Theatre in Danville. Fado is often considered the blues of Portugal which means destiny or fate that evokes the emotion of yearning or longing for something lost.     Its lyrics often reflect the darker elements of love, loss, redemption, and humor. Fado was popularized as a means of cathartic lamentations for mourning and sorrow during a darker and more turbulent era in Portugal’s history.

Hailed as “the rising star in world music” by the San Francisco Examiner, Ramana’s interest in Fado started when she was young, as she listened to American Pop and Portuguese folk music. Her original song “Unico Para Amar” was featured at the 2006 Winter Olympics.

Tickets for the concert are $30 online and $35 at the door. They can also be purchased at www.danville.ca.gov/vtshows
