[ARCHIVED] Enjoy a 'Night in Portugal' at the Village Theatre

Come Enjoy A Night in Portugal

Ramana Veiera brings a Night of World Music to the Village Theatre

No need to pack a bag for this trip, as the Town of Danville is bringing a bit of Portugal to the Village Theatre and Art Gallery, 233 Front Street, on Saturday, August 3 at 7:30 p.m.

A Northern California native of Portuguese descent, and a Fadista (Fado musician), Ramana Veiera brings her own interpretations of Fado music from Portugal by infusing the haunting laments of old world classics with innovative instrumentation, creative layers and soaring vocals.

Her original composition “Unido Para Amar” was played at the Opening Ceremony of the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin, Italy.  In 2015, Veiera was nominated for Best Fado Performance and Best World Music Performance at the International Portuguese Music Awards. Portugal Fado is a genre of world music originating from Portugal that dates back to the 19th century and is best described as an evocation of “saudade” which in Portuguese translates to a yearning of something lost.  She also was recently invited by United States Congressman Jim Costa to perform for the President of the Regional Government of the Azores.

Tickets are $30 and can be purchased online at, at the Village Theatre Box Office (open Wednesday-Friday from 12:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.) or at (925) 314-3400.
