[ARCHIVED] Dogs of Danville Unleashed May 9

Town of Danville Present: Dogs of Danville, Unleashed

New public art project set to open May 9

Art enthusiasts and dog lovers alike will find much to love when the Town of Danville’s first ever public art project, ‘Dogs of Danville, Unleashed,’ opens in May.

This fantastic temporary public art project features 15 life-sized fiberglass dog sculptures that have been uniquely and artistically embellished by 15 different Bay Area artists.  The first ever project is the result of a collaboration between Town, the art community, and local businesses.  15 local businesses were sought out to sponsor a dog and the artist that brought it to life.

A dog reveal party is set for Thursday, May 9, 2019 at the Village Theatre Art Gallery, 233 Front St.  The dog sculptures will be on display for all to see and enjoy.  The community is invited to come revel at the gorgeous art of the whimsical dog sculptures. The Dogs of Danville Opening Reception will take place from 5:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m.

Exhibition dates for the dog sculptures are May 10 – September 19, 2019.  The Dogs will remain outdoors in Downtown Danville all within a few blocks radius of each other. A walking tour will be available at the Village Theatre and Art Gallery and at all of the other 15 host sights.  Dog and art lovers are encouraged to stop by during regular business hours and get a stamp in their Dogs of Danville Passport booklet.  Bring the booklet to the closing reception and enter it into a raffle.  One per household.

At the end of the summer, a closing reception will be held featuring a Silent Auction where aficionados will be able to purchase the dogs. Closing Reception/Auction is set for 5:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m., Thursday, September 19, 2019.  Information on the project can be found at www.danville.ca.gov/dogsofdanville.
