[ARCHIVED] Danville Selects Mayor and Vice Mayor; Announces Community Awards

Allan Shields

Renee Morgan will serve as Mayor for 2025 and Newell Arnerich will serve as Vice Mayor

At its December 4 meeting, the Danville Town Council unanimously voted to select Renee Morgan as Mayor and Newell Arnerich as Vice Mayor for 2025. The Council also recognized several community organizations and individuals for their service to the Town.

Renee Morgan was first elected to the Town Council in 2012. This is her third time serving as Mayor. Newell Arnerich was first elected to the Town Council in 1995, and previously served as a member of the Design Review Board and Planning Commission. The mayoral rotation in Danville is a one-year term that begins the first Wednesday in December, and both the Mayor and Vice Mayor positions are appointed by, and rotated among, the Councilmembers annually.

Two special awards were given for significant and lasting contributions to the Danville Community:

The Michael K. Shimansky Community Service Award recognizes those serving the youth community in Danville and is usually given to a young Danville resident. The award is in honor of the 20-year Councilmember who, prior to his passing in 2009, encouraged youth to improve their community through service. This year, San Ramon Valley High School student Andy Kim was recognized for his leadership and advocacy work in the community.

The Danville Award is the Town’s highest honor. Allan Shields was recognized for his lasting impact on the Town over the course of over 11 years of service as member of the Danville Police Department and 8 years serving as the Chief of Police.

The Council also recognized milestone years of service and contributions of outgoing commissioners and elected officials. During the Community Awards, Councilmembers recognized the following individuals and organizations:

  • Janet Willford for her dedication and commitment to San Ramon Valley High School and the Danville community for over 25 years
  • Margareta (Maggie) Iancu for her for her accomplishments and positive example she sets as a student at Monte Vista High School
  • Eric Ardell for his dedication to the American Legion Post 246;
  • Dan Dunn for supporting the Danville community as Director of the Museum of the San Ramon Valley for over 10 years
