[ARCHIVED] Downtown Employee Parking Permit Program Updates for 2024

Downtown Employee Parking Permits

Program fees reinstated; provides convenient parking options for employees and customers.

The Town of Danville is implementing some changes to its Downtown Employee Parking Permit Program, which provides employees with nearby parking for their shifts without violating short-term parking restrictions meant to accommodate customers. The program offers low-fee annual parking passes for employees to park in certain nearby zones beyond the short-term parking window.  The annual permits are available now, and parking enforcement will begin after a 14-day grace period.

The fees for employee permit parking have been waived since the start of the pandemic, with a no-fee permit required. In September the Town Council adopted a resolution reinstating permit fees, returning to 2016 rates. Staff have also launched a new online permit purchasing system, making it easier for business owners and employees to participate.

The program divides available permit parking into three zones, with a two-tiered fee structure. Zone 1 is more central to Downtown, and zones 2 and 3 are areas further east and north. As of January 1, employee parking permits are $50 for zones 2 and 3, and $25 for zone 1. These fees are the same as they were when the program launched in 2010, and the annual fee allows employees and business owners to get to work without having to worry about short-term parking. The program also frees up parking for customers, driving the Downtown economy.

With this intention, the Danville Police Department requires proof of employment when purchasing a Downtown employee parking permit. The permit is a sticker that must be affixed to the employee’s windshield. Employees and business owners can create an account, purchase a permit, and get more information at www.danville.ca.gov/parkingpermits. Since the fees are being reinstated this year, Danville Police Department will focus on education at first, with enforcement beginning after a two-week grace period.
