[ARCHIVED] Danville Issues Call for Artists: Caterpillar-Inspired Book Bench

Social Media - Call for Artists

Public art project celebrates The Very Hungry Caterpillar with book bench on the Town Green

The Town of Danville is inviting Bay Area artists to showcase their creativity by designing a fiberglass book bench inspired by Eric Carle’s beloved children’s book, The Very Hungry Caterpillar. This unique public art piece will be installed on the Town Green, right outside the Danville Library, becoming a vibrant centerpiece for residents and visitors to enjoy.

Artists age 16 and older who reside in a San Francisco Bay Area county are encouraged to submit original designs. The deadline for submissions is October 17. The selected artist will bring their design to life on the fiberglass bench, creating a lasting connection between the joy of reading and the power of visual art.

The winning book was selected through a public vote as part of the Book Bench Challenge, with recommendations from Town staff and Danville Library staff each suggesting four books. Of the nearly 300 votes for the eight books, The Very Hungry Caterpillar received the most votes, with Where the Wild Things Are coming in second.
