‘GivingTuesday’ Kicks off Season of Giving in Danville

In Danville, residents can commemorate the global GivingTuesday initiative through donation opportunities facilitated by town staff. GivingTuesday is an independent nonprofit that fosters giving, collaboration, and generosity, focused on the Tuesday after the big Black Friday shopping weekend. In collaboration with local community groups, the Town has three convenient and meaningful options to give back to the community this holiday season.

One Warm Coat Drive: In partnership with One Warm Coat, the Town is hosting a coat drive to collect clean, gently worn, or new coats for children and adults through January 6. Monte Vista High School will also be accepting donations at their Main Office from December 5-7, and at their Football Banquet in the Monte Vista Little Theater on December 7 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Coats will be distributed in the local community, and can be dropped off between 8:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Monday–Thursday and Friday 8:30 a.m. to noon at the Town Offices (500 La Gonda Way) and Community Center (420 Front Street). Area residents are invited to help the Town reach a community goal of collecting 100 coats and $250 dollars. For more information or to make a monetary donation, visit danville.ca.gov/onewarmcoat.

The Senior Giving Tree: Spread joy to local seniors by donating a gift this season. The Town Senior Center is collecting new games, books, and puzzles for adults, no more than $25 value, to be distributed through the Town’s Frozen Curbside Meals program. Wrap your gift and drop it off at the Senior Center (115 E. Prospect Ave.) or Town Offices by December 16, between 8:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Monday¬–Thursday and Friday 8:30 a.m. to noon. For more information, contact Mirissa Wolfson at mwolfson@danville.ca.gov or Leah Martinez at lmartinez@danville.ca.gov.

Toys for Tots Drive & Fill the Cruiser Events: The Danville Police Department is supporting the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program with an ongoing toy drive and two Fill the Cruiser events. Through December 12, drop off a new, unwrapped toy for children up to age 12 in the Danville Police Department Lobby (500 La Gonda Way) between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday–Thursday and Friday 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. There will also be two Fill the Cruiser events to make donating even easier. Danville Police Department will be at the Danville Costco at 3150 Fostoria Way to collect toys from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on December 2 and 9. For more information, contact Community Services and Crime Prevention Coordinator Lindsay Ortiz at lortiz@danville.ca.gov.

While you are shopping at local Danville businesses for your family and friends, pick up an extra gift to benefit those in need in our community.
