Town Launches Housing Plan Simulation Tool

Town Launches Housing Plan Simulation Tool for the Housing Element Update

Danville’s Draft Housing Element is now available for review

As Danville continues the task of planning for an assigned minimum of 2,241 new homes in the next eight-year Housing Element cycle (2023-2031), the Town is inviting community members to use a Housing Plan Simulation Tool. The Housing Plan Simulation Tool allows users to create and submit their own version of a housing element that achieves the minimum 2,241-housing unit target.  Users can ‘add’ what they believe is the appropriate number of housing units to qualified potential housing sites on a virtual map. It is an interactive way to explore where housing might go and how different housing densities on various sites can help the Town meet its housing assignment.

Most of the potential housing sites shown on this tool were identified through the Housing Site Suggestion Map public input process in April 2022, when a total of 281 ‘pins’ were dropped by community members on 99 separate sites for the Town to consider. The sites that met established State criteria, along with those identified through prior Housing Elements and staff analysis, are featured on the simulation tool.

Information Workshops in July. The Town will be hosting three online workshops in July 2022 to provide guidance on how to use the Housing Plan Simulation Tool and to answer questions regarding the Housing Element Update process.

The Draft Housing Element is now available. Identifying enough land to accommodate Danville’s housing assignment is a requirement of state housing law, enacted in 1969. To do so, the Town, along with all other California communities, must identify locations (sites) that could accommodate new housing development. This ‘site inventory’ analysis is part of the Draft Danville 2023-2031 Housing Element, which is now available for public review. A copy can be downloaded at www.DanvilleTownTalks.org/HousingElement.

The public comment period for this initial draft will close on August 1, 2022. Public comments received will be incorporated into an updated Draft Housing Element that will be submitted to the State of California for review. A final Draft Housing Element, reflecting the State’s review and comments, will be considered by the Planning Commission in December 2022 and subsequently by the Town Council in January 2023.

Community members can submit questions and comments about the Draft Housing Element via the www.DanvilleTownTalks.org/HousingElement online platform, which is designed to collect all public input on this effort.
