Danville Seeks to Fill Lifeguard and Swim Instructor Positions

Danville Seeks to Fill Summer Positions as

National Lifeguard Shortage Continues

The Town of Danville’s summer camp season starts next week as it continues to seek to fill positions for lifeguards and swim instructors for its popular aquatic programs. Like other towns and cities across the Bay Area, the Town is dealing with a national lifeguard shortage. The shortage is primarily due to the industry not being able to certify lifeguards for one year in 2020.

For Danville, this means that the Town is still offering summer aquatic programs; however, space may need to be limited and the number of programs available may need to be adjusted.

Recreation, Arts and Community Services Director Henry Perezalonso said, “Water safety is our top priority, and we want to make sure that Danville families have the best experience in our pools and programs this summer.”

The Town is expecting to release more information about its aquatic programs prior to each session and is aiming to give as much notice to registrants as possible if any adjustments or cancellations need to be made.

Henry Perezalonso continued, “We are still hiring, training, and hoping we have the lifeguard and swim instructor numbers to provide as much programming as we can in the safest manner possible. We greatly appreciate everyone’s understanding and patience.”

Community members interested in a summer position working at Danville’s pools (San Ramon Valley High School & Monte Vista High School) can complete an application at: https://www.calopps.org/danville/job-20196746  or contact Amy Cooper at acooper@danville.ca.gov for more information.
