Town Talks with the Mayor meets Danville's Record Breaking & Olympic Gold Winning Athletes

Town Talks with the Mayor
Danville’s accomplished athletes breaking records and winning gold

In this month’s Town Talks installment, Danville Mayor Renee Morgan will be chatting with two inspirational Danville athletes, Maggie Steffens and Jason Caldwell, who have had a phenomenal 2021. Three-time Olympic gold medal winner Maggie Steffens achieved her third gold medal for water polo in the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo this year. Ocean rower, Jason Caldwell, finished a four-man row from California to Hawaii, beating the previous record by nine days.

Town Talks with Mayor Renee Morgan will be live-streamed at 9:00 a.m. on Friday, October 1, 2021. Town Talks is a program held on the first Friday of each month via Zoom. Mayor Morgan invites guests to discuss a variety of topics of interest to Danville residents.

Joining the Mayor on October 1 will be Maggie Steffens and Jason Caldwell. Maggie Steffens played water polo at Monte Vista High School. She achieved her first gold medal for water polo in 2012 at the Olympics in London, her second gold medal in Rio in 2016 then soared to further success at the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo earlier this year, winning her third Olympic gold medal and also setting a new Olympic record in the most number of goals scored by a female water player over the course of their athletic career competing at the Olympic Games. World record holder and Danville resident, Jason Caldwell, set a world record for the fastest four-person team to ever row across the Atlantic Ocean, 35 days, 14 hours, 3 minutes. This summer, Caldwell broke another Guinness World Record for crossing the Mid-Pacific in 30 days, 7 hours, and 30 minutes.

Community members are encouraged to join the discussion and find out more about these accomplished athletes. Participants can ask questions using the chat feature or email questions ahead of time to towntalks@danville.ca.gov.
