Neighborhoods were buzzing Aug 7 as block parties sprang up all across Danville. Residents came out to meet and share stories and food with their neighbors as part of the National Night Out event.
National Night Out is an annual program designed to bring neighborhoods together. Residents are encouraged to get out and meet their neighbors. The idea is that if neighbors all know one another, strangers coming into a neighborhood will be more noticeable. Which would lead to a quicker response to criminal activity and a reduction in crime.
Members of the Danville Town Council, Police Chief Steve Simpkins and Danville Police Department officers and reservists hit the streets Tuesday night to get out and meet with as many citizens as possible at the street parties. Officer Tom Rossberg and his K9 partner Chef spoke with dozens of area children and parents at the block parties, demonstrating the abilities of the Town's new K9 unit.
Pictures from several of the block parties are available for viewing online on the Town's Flickr account.
