National Emergency Alert Test Set For Nov. 9
Test to be conducted over local airwaves
Danville residents, as well as those across the country, next week will take part in a test of the National Emergency Alert System (EAS). The EAS is a public alert and warning system enabling the President of the United States to address the American public during emergency situations.
The EAS is part of an ongoing national emergency preparedness effort. FEMA, the FCC, other federal partners, state and local governments are working together on this system test.
The test will occur on Wednesday, Nov. 9, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. pst. The message will go out across all EAS partners, including broadcast television, satellite and digital radio, cable and digital television and wireline video. The message is expected to last three to three and a half minutes.
Town of Danville Emergency Services Manager Greg Gilbert said the test is an excellent reminder for residents and businesses to check, update and upgrade their emergency preparedness kits. Gilbert is available for an interview on the test.
