Share Our Streets Campaign Shifts to Warning Phase
Warning citations to be issued for traffic infractions
Motorists, cyclists and pedestrians may be seeing more attention from Danville Police in the weeks ahead as the Town of Danville’s Share Our Streets campaign moves into the second of its three-phase operation.
Share Our Streets is designed to raise awareness among the various groups who use Danville’s roadways, in an attempt to reduce the number of accidents involving those groups.
During the first phase of the campaign, police officers and volunteers handed out informational brochures and literature on road safety. The brochures included tips on safely sharing the roads.
In the next phase, which runs from July 21 – August 15, 2011, officers will begin a more active enforcement of the rules of the road, but will have the option of giving warning citations for minor traffic infractions.
In the final phase, from August 15 – September 9, 2011, police will strictly enforce driving, cyclist and pedestrian laws and will be citing traffic violations more stringently.
Share Our Streets is a campaign created jointly by the Town of Danville’s Transportation and Police Departments.
