Danville Police took a 32 year-old Oakland man into custody Wednesday, in connection with a residential burglary.
Police Chief Steve Simpkins said around 1:15 p.m. on May 18, 2011 police received a call after a resident spotted a person at a condominium complex in the 1100 block of San Ramon Valley Boulevard. The resident reported seeing an unknown man on a dirt pathway in the complex who ran away when approached.
Neighbors reported seeing a person matching the description run into the nearby Sunset Color Nursery. Police contacted the nursery staff who told them that an unknown individual had come inside and asked parents if they could give him a ride. The suspect reportedly ran westbound into an open field. Responding officers found a Nikon camera on the ground near an abandoned bicycle.
A short time later, an officer located the suspect and detained him. A search of his backpack turned up a Playstation 3 and a laptop computer. Police were able to establish that the laptop was from the residence on San Ramon Valley Blvd. At that address it was found that a residential burglary had occurred in which the items were stolen.
The suspect was identified as Jarrad Kalajian, 32, of Oakland. Kalajian is charged with residential burglary, possession of stolen property and possession of burglary tools. He was transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.
