Danville PD Nabs Pair in Residential Burglary

Man arrested after burglarizing home near Baldwin Elementary

Quick action by alert citizens led Danville Police to arrest a man in connection with a residential burglary near the intersection of Paraiso Dr. and Everett Place.  Police Chief Steve Simpkins said around 11:05 a.m. police received a report of a suspicious couple running down the street with a rifle case and duffel bag.

Officers were able to take a female suspect into custody, but a male suspect evaded capture, leaving the rifle case and duffel bag behind. The rifle case had a shotgun inside and the duffel bag contained jewelry and electronics. All the property was determined to be stolen from a residence on Everett Drive.

Officers searched the surrounding neighborhoods with the assistance of the San Ramon Police Department and the Contra Costa Sheriff’s Office, during which time a lockdown for nearby John Baldwin Elementary School was ordered. The suspect was later found by Danville PD Detective Brian Sliger in the backyard of a home on Liberta Ct.

Taken into custody was a male suspect identified as Joseph Cefalou, 20, of Danville. Cefalou was arrested on suspicion of residential burglary, possession of stolen property and probation violation and was later booked at the Martinez Detention Facility. The female suspect is a juvenile and was released pending further investigation.
