Danville Mayor Karen Stepper met with some two dozen area residents Friday morning as part of the monthly Mornings with the Mayor program. Instituted by former Mayor Mike Shimansky, Mornings with the Mayor is an opportunity for Danville residents to speak with the Mayor about topics of relevance to the Town, as well as hearing presentations from Town staff and officials on specific subjects.
February's meeting, held at Father Nature's Restaurant, 172 Prospect Avenue, addressed two major topics affecting Danville citizens. Police Chief Steve Simpkins led off the presentations by discussing Crime Prevention. Simpkins brought along with him his new Crime Prevention Specialist Mike Wells to talk about programs the Danville PD uses to combat crime. Wells talked about online crime mapping software, along with new ideas in crime prevention that involve many different layers of Town government.
Town Manager Joe Calabrigo also gave a presentation regarding recent discussions in Sacramento to take funds away from local governments' redevelopment agencies. Calabrigo outlined the uses and effectiveness of the redevelopment agency, as well as talking about some projects and improvements in Danville that would not have happened without the redevelopment agency.
Residents were able to ask questions and several lively discussions were held on a wide variety of topics. The Morning with the Mayor was videotaped and the video is available for viewing online.
Next month's Morning with the Mayor will be held Friday March 4, 2011 from 7:30 a.m. - 8:30 a.m. at Father Nature's Restaurant.
