The Town of Danville is working to be greener, which led to a special certification being presented on Tuesday night. At the Feb. 1, 2011 meeting of the Danville Town Council, the Town was honored for working to be a better environmental citizen. In qualifying for the certification, the Town underwent several 'green' audits designed to determine how environmentally friendly the Town's buildings and business practices are.
As part of the Bay Area Green Business Program, the Town took on the Green Business Pledge, which offers to:
* Comply with all applicable regulations and strive to exceed compliance
* Conserve, energy, water, materials and resources
* Implement practices to prevent waste
* Share with the community the importance of being an environmentally responsible business
The award at Tuesday's meeting was presented to Mayor Karen Stepper by Cynthia Ruzzi of Sustainable Danville.
