Gallery Show illustrates joys of childhood
Children's book illustrators showcased at Village Theatre Art Gallery
One of the best things about reading stories with your children is marvelling at the illustrations, the beautiful pictures that serve as a counterpoint to the action on the page. Whether it be the cool colors and sharp imagery of New York Times bestselling author Lisa Brown's "Vampire Boy's Good Night" or the warm hues and soft focus of Marissa Moss', "Regina's Big Mistake," the mere mention of these belowed tales conjure up vivid images instantly recognizable to child and adult alike.
Iconic images such as these can be found in abundance at the Village Theatre Art Gallery's new show, "Once Upon A Book: The Fine Art of Children's Book Illustration."
Opening Oct. 15 and running through Dec. 17, "Once Upon A Book" is a showcase of 13 of California's finest children's book illustrators and artists. The artists participating in the exhibit include:
Jim La Marche
Daniel San Souci
An opening reception is scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 23, with some of the artists on hand to sign copies of their books. In addition, other events taking place in conjunction with the exhibit include:
Oct. 30 - A come as your favorite book character costume party. The event begins at 1:00 p.m. and will feature author/illustrator Lisa Brown reading from "Vampire Boy's Good Night."
