Population, housing on rise in Danville

Figures released in May by the California Department of Finance show that the Town of Danville saw in increase in the number of households and total population for 2009, compared to 2008 statistics.

Information provided by the DOF showed that as of 1/1/10, the total  population in Danville had increased to 43,574, up 494 from 1/1/09.  The total number of households saw a gain of 57, bringing the total number to 15,852.  Town of Danville Chief of Planning Kevin Gailey said that the spike in population growth can be attributed to a corresponding increase in the number of residents living in each residence, a statistic he says will be recalculated once the totals from the 2010 census are released.

Other increases reported by the DOF included an upsurge in Single Family Attached homes, which went up by 26 from last year, Multi-family dwellings with 5+ units went up by 34. A total of 64 new residential units were built, while 5 were demolished.

Residents interested in the DOJ population data will be able to find more detailed figures in the Planning section of the Town’s website, www.ci.danville.ca.us/planning .
