Contractor named for Veterans Building Project

The final pieces are in place for work to begin on the multi-million dollar Veterans Memorial Building renovation project. At its June 1 meeting, the Danville Town Council unanimously approved awarding the construction contract for the project to Zovich and Sons Inc. of Hayward.

Zovich and Sons Inc.’s bid of $5,325,000 was the lowest of 11 bids submitted  by area contractors. The company will oversee the reconstruction and renovation of the 85- year old building located in the heart of Danville’s downtown.

The project will involve preserving and renovating the front two story portion of the building at 400 Hartz Avenue, while demolishing and rebuilding the rear portion of the structure.  Plans call for the space in the Veterans Memorial Building to be increased to 13,000 square feet. It will provide space for area Veterans groups, as well as the Town’s Senior and Recreation programs. Cost of the project is projected to be $7.7 million.

With the hiring of Zovich and Sons, work is set to begin on July 5, with completion expected late in 2011.
