Commissioners to seek further input on Osage parking

Parking improvements in the area near Osage Station Park will continue to be an area of study for the Town of Danville Parks and Leisure Services Commission. Following a spirited discussion at their March 10 meeting, Commissioners chose to defer action on the three plans presented for possible expansion of the northern parking area at Osage Station Park.

Commissioners were examining plans put forth to expand the parking area to provide additional spaces, which would decrease the number of cars parking on residential streets. The three plans would have increased the available parking at Osage by 34, 48 or 77 spaces.

26 area residents attended the meeting and several voiced their concerns to the Commission. Many suggested the Town utilize nearby Charlotte Wood Middle School as a site for overflow parking.

After over an hour of testimony and discussion, Commissioners opted to send the issue back to staff for further review.

"Let’s step back and get more information," Commission Chair Jane Joyce said. "Once we have that, it could return at a later date."
