Gas Tax and Fees Help Fund Local Road Repairs

SB 1 GraphicIn April 2017, the California Legislature passed Senate Bill 1 (SB 1) – the Road Repair and Accountability Act of 2017. SB 1 is a statewide transportation infrastructure investment package that will generate $54 billion over the next decade to repair and maintain California’s aging transportation infrastructure including roads, freeways, bridges, transit, and help relieve traffic congestion.

The revenues will be generated through a combination of sources such as gas tax and vehicle fees, including a new registration fee on zero-emission vehicles. Of the $54 billion, half of the new revenue will go directly to local agencies. Danville is expected to receive approximately $242,000 in 2017-18 and $700,000 - $800,000 annually in the years following, which will be invested exclusively in pavement maintenance and rehabilitation.
